[922] George was age 15 on the 1870 census. He and his family are shown in Worcester County in the 1900 census. A letter written by Georgette Purnell Claypoole says George was a farmer and lumberman and that he lived at Powellsville, Maryland. According to Mrs. Claypoole, George was an ardent and active Republican. (Karen L. Robert & George I. Purnell III, Descendants of Thomas Purnell, private, 1999)
