[2069] Known as Major Jesse, for his various virtues and his distinguished services to his country as a patriot warrior, is entitled to the grateful remembrance of his Kindred. At the decease of his father in early childhood he was apprenticed to an uncle learn the trade of tanner and shoemaker. At the age of 16, the earliest period at which he could be enrolled in the Revoluntionary army, he enlisted as a private and served under Gen. George Washington to the close of the war. He was one of the guard when Major Andr'e was led out to execution.
